Trail Soft-Surface Construction Update
|
Please read below for a notice on the ongoing Katy Trail soft-surface path construction project.
|
What: Removal and replacement of the damaged portion of red soft-surface path on the Katy Trail
When: Currently ongoing
Where: A one-mile stretch of the soft-surface path, between Armstrong and Blackburn
Why: As you are likely aware, the soft-surface path that was installed in 2020 in a one-mile section of the Trail between Armstrong and Blackburn has developed a number of issues, including buckling and sheeting. Friends of the Katy Trail has been working to determine the cause of these issues.
FKT is now glad to report that construction to remove the existing damaged soft surface and replace it with new soft surface is underway. The new surface looks fantastic and is incredibly comfortable for walkers and runners!
How to Use the Trail During This Project: This construction project requires strong community stewardship by our Trail users, as we will need to close the red path in this area during phases of the project. The public must stay off the new surface during installation and curing, so that we have a highly improved new walking and running path for the community.

David's Way Bollards Thank You
|
We are sending a special thank you to David Dowse for his diligent work on David’s Way, a cherished community feature. An electrical engineer and avid Katy Trail user, David reached out to us to provide his expertise on the musical bollards. He spent many hours backing up files and refurbishing the speakers, fans, air conditioners, and more.
If you're at Knox and the Katy Trail this holiday season, enjoy the chimes with music-synced lights from a bench amid scenic views of the buzzing Knox St. and Katy Trail crossing. We are thankful for our wonderful community of Trail users who give back to the Katy Trail in such a variety of ways!
